Sheree’s Story
Sheree Trefala always felt drawn to Information Technology, and after starting out with a Cert III in Network Administration, Sheree has gone on to manage more than 300 staff delivering essential services to the federal government during the pandemic.
My Tech Path
After finishing school, I quickly realized my passion for Information Technology. Instead of immediately starting my Computer Science degree at UniSA, I opted to gain practical experience through an apprenticeship with a small IT firm. During this time, I pursued a Cert III in Network Administration to enhance my skills hands-on.
In 2007, I transitioned to a prominent Fortune 500 company, beginning my career on a sizable IT helpdesk within the financial sector. This role laid the groundwork for ensuring seamless technology operations across all banking functions.
Subsequently, I moved into the role of a backup analyst. While not often considered glamorous, this position was critical during serious outages where data restoration was pivotal for business continuity. I eventually led this team for the federal government and expanded my responsibilities to include managing storage capabilities for the region, establishing a centre of excellence in Adelaide to elevate service delivery.
My career advanced further when I took on the challenge of senior manager, overseeing a team dedicated to Australia’s largest financial broker. Managing over 300 staff, our focus was on delivering essential services to the federal government, including crucial support during times like the pandemic and peak tax season.
Currently, I am part of the executive leadership team where I contribute to developing cutting-edge solutions that address client needs and aspirations in their digital journey, while navigating the complexities of the evolving cyber landscape.
Each role I’ve held has deepened my expertise in leveraging technology to solve complex business challenges effectively.
